I stay involved with my community by volunteering my time at Admission Possible, St Peter Claver Catholic School, and Neighbors Inc. It’s important to me because my community has given so much to me so why not help others by paying it forward? It is also important to me because I am on maternity leave and if you can sit at home all day and watch Maury, then you can get up and help someone in the community!

I stay involved in the community by doing a service learning project at the Minnesota Literacy Council in Northeast Minneapolis. I am also vice president of the Hmong Minnesota Student Association at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. Volunteering in the community is important for me because it prepares me for being a future educator. HMSA is important for me because it promotes leadership and communication skills. Not only this, it also gives me an opportunity to be part of a support group and provide awareness of higher education to high school students.

I stay involved by getting off campus. This includes exploring the community, eating at local restaurants, and interning at a non-profit organization that assists teen parents. This is important because the community where you go to school is essentially where you live for four years. I like to make the most out of any situation, and the Beloit community has many opportunities to do so.

I stay involved in the community by volunteering at International LEAP Academy when I come back to St. Paul for my breaks. This is very important to me because I want to share my knowledge with immigrant students and I enjoy helping them. This is also very important to me because I want to help and see these students succeed. I want to be the help that my parents and others never received when they came to America. In the process, I've also learned and am still learning a lot about the students and their unique lives.

I stay involved in my community by tutoring young kids and motivating them to seek higher education. Being a first generation college student, I know how a lot of young kids may feel. I am able to tell them that they too can go to college and make something of themselves. If we invest in the future, dreams can come true. What better way than tutoring the next generation of leaders?

I find it exciting to experience college in a smaller community. I stay involved by working with the guys in the Augsburg Advantage at St. Kate’s program; we have formed tight bonds and help each other stay on track so we can all transition to Augsburg College together. Along the way I’ve met and made close friends with students in different programs. Making friends is my way of making a contribution to the St. Kate’s – Minneapolis campus community.

I stay involved with my community by participating in the TRIO mentor-ship program where I correspond through letters with two 9th graders from North High School in Minneapolis. Through this program I represent a positive role model/influence in the lives of these kids and help them think about college. This program is important to me because I know the power a constant positive figure can have in the lives of young people. I came from a neighborhood and family situation similar to theirs, and I hope to accomplish for others what Admission Possible did for me: the confidence and the drive to exceed above and beyond the expectations of everyone, including myself.

I stay involved in my community by volunteering at Ebenezer Nursing Home in Minneapolis. I’m always looking for interesting volunteer opportunities available to me. Next semester I plan to continue volunteering with the Big Brother, Big Sister program and also volunteer at the University of Minnesota-Fairview Medical Center. Volunteering is important to me because it helps me give back to my community, meet new and interesting people, and make a difference in someone's life.

One thing that helps me stay involved in my community is the Upward Bound program. Since I intend to major in elementary education, I have to do a 30 hour service learning project in my community. Through this volunteer service I was able to develop my leadership skills and at the same time have fun with high school students who aren’t much younger than me. Not only did I have fun, but my students taught me how to improve myself and become a better teacher for the future.

When I think about community, I like to think about campus and its surroundings. Here at Augsburg, I feel really connected to our diverse community because of the wide immigrant population around us. As an immigrant |

myself, I feel really connected to my school and one of its achievements: engaging Minneapolis. At school, I am part of student government as a senator, I am in the Student Concern Committee, and I am the President's right hand in the Spanish Club. Outside Augsburg, I volunteer at Waite House assisting their youth programs and I also tutor a middle school student twice a week. Also, I am an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher at Holy Rosary where I teach English to adults who are immigrants, and I help the 1st Communion and Confirmation director with paperwork and coordination of the programs. I also lead NAVIGATE Project, which provides college assistance to Minnesota undocumented students. These activities are important to me because I am giving back to both my school and surrounding community. I also want to be an ESL teacher and these experiences of actually teaching and tutoring immigrants are preparing me to serve my community in a greater level later in life.

I stay involved in the community by tutoring ESL (English as a Second Language) high school students and spending time with elementary students. This is important to me because learning English can be very difficult and sometimes students need more encouragement. Also, being a role model for little children might help them view the world differently.

I stay involved in my community by volunteering at a local hospital. This is important to me because I want to show how essential it is to care and look after someone in a time of need. I also believe it is important to show that I really am committed to entering the health field some day.
